SUV hits pedicab, center island in Manila; driver with apparent heat stroke

An SUV going down a road in Paco, Manila hit a pedicab, crashed into a center island, and backed into another vehicle, with the driver apparently experiencing the symptoms of heat stroke.

In EJ Gomez’s Sunday report on “24 Oras Weekend,” CCTV footage showed that the white SUV hit the pedicab in front of it along Onyx Street, Barangay 813, past 5 p.m. on Saturday, causing the pedicab to spin and crash to the ground.

The SUV then swerved and drove into the center island, with the impact sending it back down to hit two parked vehicles on the other side of the road.

The footage also showed that the passengers immediately got out of the SUV.

Based on the investigation, the driver was having difficulty breathing due to a possible heat stroke. He and his two passengers, including his mother, were brought to the hospital for medical treatment.

According to the barangay kagawad, the driver asked for help while clutching his chest after coming out of the SUV, while his mother fractured her foot.

The pedicab driver and his two passengers also sustained minor injuries.

All of them, including the driver, were discharged from the hospital.

The SUV driver will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
