10 QCPD cops in custody over Oplan Galugad ‘irregularities’

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Wednesday said 10 police officers from Police Station 14 (Holy Spirit) have been placed under restrictive custody over “alleged irregularities” in implementing Oplan Galugad.

“They are currently under the custody of [the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit] for investigation and filing of appropriate criminal and administrative charges,” the QCPD said in a statement.

According to the QPCD, a post on social media went viral which claimed supposed anomalies in Oplan Galugad on April 12.

“Police Station 14 initially reported the arrest of five men for illegal gambling (PD 1602),” the QCPD said.

“However, validation on April 22 revealed that a handbag with suspected dried marijuana leaves was recovered but not documented, inventoried, or turned over to the crime lab. No charges under R.A. 9165 were filed, constituting neglect of duty and grave misconduct,” it added.

The police officers in custody have been relieved from their posts, reassigned to District Personnel and Holding Admin Section, and had their issued firearms secured.

“The QCPD strongly condemns any act that erodes public trust. We assure the public that this matter is being handled with urgency and transparency,” the QCPD said.

“This is in full support of the directive of NCRPO Regional Director, Police Major General Anthony Aberin, to cleanse the ranks of the NCRPO of scalawags and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in law enforcement,” it added. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
