CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) has intensified firearm security measures among police personnel in Central Luzon following recent firearm-related incidents involving students.

PRO 3 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Jess Mendez emphasized that the proper safekeeping of firearms is a basic duty of every police officer and an essential factor in preserving public confidence and ensuring community safety.

“Recent incidents serve as a reminder that every firearm entrusted to a police officer carries a serious responsibility,” Mendez said.

He instructed all personnel to strictly comply with existing policies on the custody, handling, and safekeeping of issued firearms.

Mendez likewise directed unit commanders throughout the region to reinforce oversight and strictly enforce firearm accountability protocols within their respective offices, stations, and units.

“We must remain vigilant and ensure that these firearms are never left unattended or placed in situations where they may be accessed or misused by unauthorized persons, particularly children,” he added.

Mendez also emphasized that discipline and accountability should be reflected at all times, including in the proper care and security of government-issued equipment.

“The badge we wear comes with a duty to lead by example. By exercising responsible firearm ownership and strict accountability, we can help prevent avoidable incidents and reinforce the public’s trust and confidence in the police service,” he stated.

The initiative supports the delivery of Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman to the people of Central Luzon and aligns with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Focused Agenda under PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. (CLJD/AJRR, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
