MALACAÑANG on Tuesday said all local government units (LGUs) can benefit from the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), including rice distribution, “regardless of political affiliation.”
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the LGUs nationwide can access the LGSF, a key initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to finance their projects.
The president earlier said that from the nearly 2,000 LGUs nationwide, 1,276 have already received assistance through LGSF.
In a Palace press briefing, Castro cited Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, who she said affirmed that LGSF assistance is provided to communities without discrimination.
“The LGSF is for all LGUs; it’s not partial to any political color, town, or area. All villages, all local government units will benefit from the LGSF,” Castro said in Filipino.
She urged the public to check with their local officials regarding the distribution of LGSF assistance, particularly the 10-kilogram rice aid intended for qualified beneficiaries.
Under the program, beneficiaries from vulnerable sectors, including low-income earners, senior citizens, and solo parents, receive 10 kilograms of rice every two months.
She also warned local officials against taking advantage of their constituents following reports that some beneficiaries received rice allocations that were below the required weight.
Castro said that beneficiaries should not be charged for government assistance distributed under the program.
“If you have doubts and suspect fraud, kindly inform us so that we can address it immediately,” she added.
