The Duterte-backed PDP Laban has officially adopted Senator Imee Marcos and Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar as guest candidates in its senatorial slate for the May 12 midterm elections.
The party made the announcement on Saturday, the last day of the 90-day campaign period for senatorial and party-list candidates.
In a resolution released late Saturday night, the political party chaired by former President Rodrigo Duterte, said that “there is a need for more allies to protect the Vice President against impeachment.”
Vice President Sara Duterte has personally endorsed both Marcos and Villar.
PDP Laban also emphasized that it is “practical” for them to have a 12-person senatorial lineup.
“[T]hrough their commitment to national interests, advocacy for social justice, and pursuit of meaningful reforms, has exemplified the principles and values that the PDP upholds, thereby qualifying [them] as a deserving and credible candidate[s] to be endorsed by the Party for the upcoming elections,” the resolution read.
The party also vowed to deploy all available resources, logistical support, and campaign infrastructure to advance the candidacies of Marcos and Villar.
PDP Laban held its miting de avance on May 8, calling for support for its ten initial candidates:
