Marcos: Strive for excellence to preserve PH freedom, rights

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday underscored the need to strive for excellence to preserve the country’s freedom as he led the nation in celebrating the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence in a solemn flag-raising ceremony at the Rizal National Monument in Manila.

“The freedom our forebears fought for has inspired generations to offer themselves to causes that would advance the welfare of society and humanity,” Marcos said in his Independence Day message.

“This precious gift has also encouraged countless individuals to dedicate their diligence and devotion to their respective fields for the glory of our great nation,” added Marcos.

“That is why we must value our heritage by striving for excellence in preserving our rights and freedom ensuring that they are used solely for the improvement and protection of our citizenry.”

Marcos said the journey in reaching that freedom was long, arduous, and costly, as it required the sacrifice of selfless individuals for over a century.

“Because of their heroism, we now enjoy the rights and privileges reserved for those who have a country they can call their own,” he said.

He urged the public to continue to bear the vigor of the ancestors, stressing the need to defend the nation against those who seek to diminish the strength of the people.

Marcos then urged Filipinos to honor the priceless freedom by building a country worthy of the sacrifices made by our heroes.

“May you endeavor to enhance your abilities and character to give more to our nation. Through our collective efforts, we will forge the path of progress, stability, and prosperity for our present and future generations,” Marcos said. — BM/ VAL,  GMA Integrated News
