As the public began traveling to their hometowns for Undas, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned taxi drivers of penalties for overcharging fares, snubbing, and disrespecting passengers during the All Saints’ Day break.
In a press release on Saturday, LTFRB Acting Chairman Atty. Greg Pua Jr. warned that violations of the agency’s rules and regulations could lead to the suspension or cancellation of a Certificate of Public Convenience, among other penalties.
“We expect more passengers going to bus terminals and other major transportation hubs starting next week. This early, we are giving a fair warning to all taxi operators to behave and stick to the rules and regulations of the authority to operate issued to them,” Pua said.
The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) previously stated that it is expecting around 1.9 million passengers for this year’s exodus for All Saints’ Day.
Meanwhile, up to 2 million passengers are expected at seaports, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
The LTFRB added that it similarly expects an influx of passengers at major bus terminals in Quezon City, Manila, Pasay City, Caloocan City, and Muntinlupa.
The agency stated that it will actively monitor complaints on social media platforms and conduct surprise inspections using mystery riders.
“The LTFRB is in full force when it comes to monitoring. This should serve as a strong message to both operators and drivers that we are watching you, and that you know what would happen if we catch you,” Pua said.
Pua advised passengers to report any incidents of abuse to LTFRB Hotline 1342 or through the agency’s official social media accounts. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/KG, GMA News
