The twin earthquakes that struck Manay, Davao Oriental on October 10 caused over P143 million in infrastructure damage, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday.
NDRRMC said the magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes affected more than one million people across the region. The tremors damaged roads, bridges, and public buildings, severely impacting mobility and access to essential services.
A total of 18,811 houses were affected, 17,622 were partially damaged and 1,189 were totally damaged.
According to the Office of Civil Defense, the death toll stands at nine, with 403 others injured. Relief operations are ongoing, with local and national agencies coordinating efforts to restore infrastructure and provide aid.
A total of 345,057 families comprising 1,467,803 persons were affected by the twin earthquakes. Staying at 12 evacuation centers are 771 families or 2,613 persons.
More than P1.183 million worth of assistance was provided to local government units and regional egencies , the NDRRMC said.
