The truck driver in the fatal road incident on Batasan-San Mateo Road in May has tested positive for illegal drugs, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said Wednesday.
In a statement, the QCPD said the truck driver, identified as alias “Eruel,” was subjected to an alcohol breath analyzer (ABA) and drug tests in accordance with the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
“The ABA test conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) yielded a negative result,” the QCPD said.
“However, the drug test conducted by the QCPD Forensic Unit (QCPDFU) returned a positive result for methamphetamine hydrochloride (commonly known as “shabu”),” it added.
The QCPD also conducted a thorough inspection of his 10-wheeler truck that was involved in the incident, but no illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia were found.
“Eruel” will face complaints for the violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, according to the police.
“This case serves as a clear warning to those who drive under the influence of illegal drugs, you will be held fully accountable under the law,” QCPD deputy director for administration Police Colonel Randy Glenn Silvio said.
“At mabigat po ang parusa dito ayon sa batas, reclusion temporal o mahigit 12 years to 20 years maximum na pagkakakulong at may multang P300,000 to P500,000 pag namatay ang biktima,” he added.
(The punishment here is severe according to the law, reclusion temporal or more than 12 years to 20 years maximum imprisonment and a fine of P300,000 to P500,000 if the victim dies.)
Three people died after the truck plowed into several vehicles along the Batasan-San Mateo Road in Quezon City on May 28.
A complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and multiple damage to property was filed against the suspect, the police said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
