Single mom of 6 dies after being hit by wayward SUV

One person died and five others were injured after being hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that went wayward at Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo in Makati City.

According to a report by Jonathan Andal on “24 Oras,” the fatality was a single mother of six children.

The SUV driver was found to be a 60-year-old security guard, whom police suspect was inexperienced in handling vehicles with automatic transmission.

CCTV footage from the Makati Police Station showed the victim walking along a busy street headed home when the speeding SUV hit her, throwing her on its hood.  Several other people were seen sideswiped by the vehicle before it stopped after banging against a steel railing.

The owner of the SUV identified as Bryan Dominic Guzman Jayamaha, immediately went out of the establishment to secure her mother who was sitting at the back of the car.

He said the security guard drove the vehicle to transfer it to another parking slot as the establishment owner did not want cars obstructing the street.

Matagal na daw siyang driver,” Jayamaha said.

So, sinubukan ko siyang habulin. Napatakbo niya agad yung sasakyan,” he added.

The security guard did not give a statement.

Aksidente talaga sir,” the police investigator quoted the guard as saying.

The security guard is detained at the Makati Police Station and has been subjected to inquest proceedings for a complaint of reckless imprudent resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to properties. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
