The Quezon City government has recorded 146 COVID-19 cases as of July 1, based on data from the city’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD).
In a statement on Sunday, the city government said cases surged by 265.22% over the past three weeks.
“From 23 confirmed cases recorded between May 21 and June 10, the number increased to 84 cases between June 11 and July 1,” it said.
According to QCESD data, children aged 14 and below were the most affected, accounting for nearly 30% of the cases. Adults aged 25 to 29 and senior citizens aged 60 and above followed, each making up about 16% of the total.
The city government said more cases were recorded among females than males, with 66 and 41 cases, respectively. Healthcare workers accounted for 3.74% of those infected.
From May 21 to July 1, the main hotspots in Quezon City were District 4, which accounted for 32.71% of cases, and District 1, with 22.43%.
Barangay Doña Imelda logged the highest number of cases among barangays at 11.
The following barangays also recorded four cases each: Barangay Culiat, Barangay Salvacion, Barangay Santa Teresita, Barangay Santo Cristo, Barangay Sauyo, Barangay Socorro, and Barangay Tandang Sora.
The city government said QCESD will continue monitoring case trends and advised residents experiencing respiratory symptoms or weakened immunity to consult their nearest health centre immediately.
To avoid contracting or spreading the virus, the QC Health Department reminded the public to observe the following preventive measures:
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow, and dispose of used tissues properly.
- Wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms.
- Practise proper hand hygiene by washing hands regularly or using an alcohol-based sanitiser.
- Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
- Keep a safe distance from others when feeling unwell.
- Stay at home when sick to help prevent the spread of infection.
“Prompt evaluation is critical to preventing severe complications and advanced illness,” the city government said.—MCG, GMA News
