Senator Nancy Binay has won the mayoral race in Makati.
The City Board of Canvassers on Tuesday proclaimed Binay as the winner with 114,898 votes defeating her brother-in-law Luis Campos.
She will succeed her sister Abby Binay, who run for Senate.
Nancy was first elected to the Senate in 2013 and was reelected in 2019, making her current tenure her last since the Constitution only allows a senator to sit for two consecutive six-year terms.
A Binay family member has ruled Makati City since 1987. Nancy’s father, Jejomar Binay, was a long-time Makati mayor before he was elected vice president in 2010.
Last week, Nancy took a swipe at Abby’s campaign slogan “Abby Better” saying none of the Binay siblings would have been elected to their respective positions if Jejomar had not served his constituents well. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/AOL, GMA Integrated News
