BOC seizes P4.4M worth of ecstasy, heroin at NAIA

Operatives of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday seized six parcels containing ecstasy and heroin valued at approximately P4.43 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In a statement, the BOC said the shipments, intercepted at the Central Mail Exchange Center of the airport, included 1,330 tablets of ecstasy and 362 grams of heroin.

The BOC said the illegal drugs were smuggled from Ireland, the Netherlands, and Thailand.

The illegal substances were concealed in misdeclared packages labeled as skincare products and plumbing materials, the bureau said.

The BOC said the operation was carried out in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG).

“These seizures demonstrate our resolve to dismantle drug smuggling networks through enhanced intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and strict screening protocols,” said Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio.

The confiscated drugs have been turned over to PDEA for further investigation and appropriate legal action pursuant to Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Republic Act 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act), according to the BOC. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
