The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on Thursday announced that it recorded its highest daily ridership for the year, with 502,264 passengers on Wednesday, September 16.

The latest figure surpassed the previous record of 501,875 passengers on August 26.

“Ito na ang ikalawang pagkakataon ngayong taon na lumampas sa 500,000 ang daily ridership ng MRT-3, higit pa sa naitalang 501,875 na pasahero noong Agosto 26, 2026,” the MRT-3 said in a statement.

(This is the second time this year that the MRT-3’s daily ridership exceeded 500,000, surpassing the 501,875 passengers recorded on August 26, 2026.)

On Thursday, September 17, the MRT-3 offered free train rides to national ID holders from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in commemoration of Global Identity Day.

In March, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) implemented a 50% fare discount on the MRT-3 and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) to ease commuters’ burden amid rising fuel prices.

The MRT-3 runs across 13 stations: North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, GMA-Kamuning, Araneta Center-Cubao, Santolan-Annapolis, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Boni Avenue, Guadalupe, Buendia, Ayala Avenue, Magallanes, and Taft Avenue. —VBL, GMA News
