Metro Manila crimes down by 46% in first half of May — NCRPO

The crime rate in Metro Manila went down by 46% from May 1 to 15, 2025 compared with the same period last year, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Friday.

“Despite the heightened demands of election duties, NCRPO personnel remained steadfast in carrying out police operations, checkpoint activities, and anti-criminality campaigns,” NCRPO said in a statement.

“Their relentless efforts brought down the total number of recorded incidents from 287 in 2024 to just 155 this year,” it added.

According to NCRPO, this covered the eight focus crimes including murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping. Focus crimes are offenses considered as serious in nature with sufficient frequency and regularity.

The NCRPO noted decreases in all of the focus crimes.

“Rape cases saw the sharpest drop at 76%, followed by physical injuries at 50%, murder at 38%, and homicide at 43%,” NCRPO said.

“Robbery and theft also decreased by 39% and 37%, respectively, while carnapping of motor vehicles dropped by 100% and motorcycles by 13%,” the agency added.

Meanwhile, NCRPO noted improvements in crime clearance efficiency which refers to the number of closed cases, as well as in crime solution efficiency which refers to the number of resolved cases.

“Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) remained consistently high at 90.97%, while Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) rose from 67.60% to 76.13%, reflecting an 8.53% increase,” NCRPO said.

NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin said, “Our first and fundamental duty is to prevent the occurrence of crimes and we can only do that effectively and consistently if we have a police force that is seen, heard and felt by the community.” — BAP, GMA Integrated News
