Fire hits residential area in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila

A fire broke out in a residential area in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila before noon on Saturday.

The fire in Gasangan started at 11:25 a.m., according to the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Department.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) quickly raised the second alarm at 11:26 a.m., then the third alarm at 11:34 a.m. as the fire quickly spread.

Firemen were able to put the fire under control at 12:35 p.m., according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Super Radyo dzBB.

The BFP declared fire out at 12:56 p.m., according to the Manila City DRRM Department.

Some 50-70 families and around 10 structures were affected, the Manila Social Welfare Department said, according to a report by Sam Nielsen on Super Radyo dzBB.

One child and a pet dog passed away, according to a report by Darlene Cay on 24 Oras Weekend.

Some residents said they were not able to save any of their belongings.

The affected residents were temporarily brought to the Baseco Evacuation Center.

It was the second fire that hit the community in nine years.

The Manila Fire District said strong winds were a challenge in their firefighting, as well as the fact that the structures were made of light materials.

The BFP is still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and estimated cost of property damage. β€”KG, GMA News
