Some families in Quezon City and Malabon have evacuated from low-lying areas in the vicinity of the Tullahan River after the La Mesa Dam breached its spilling level amid heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

According to Jhomer Apresto’s report on “Saksi,” the water level at the dam reached 80.22 meters. Its spilling level is 80.15 meters.

Thirty families joined the preemptive evacuation in Malabon and went to the Tinajeros Elementary School.

Eighty-five families went to the North Fairview High School in Quezon, also in anticipation of the flooding expected because of the dam spilling water.

Authorities expect 200 families will be required to evacuate from low-lying areas in four barangays in Malabon if the water level rises in the river. –NB, GMA News
