Cop who drew gun in viral road rage video in restrictive custody — MPD

The cop who drew a gun during a road rage on Election Day, as seen in a viral video, has been placed under restrictive custody, according to the Manila Police District (MPD) on Friday.

“Naka-restrictive custody po siya (He is in restrictive custody),” MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines said in a press briefing when asked about the status of the involved police officer.

The incident happened in F. Manalo Street, Barangay 897 Punta in Sta. Ana, Manila around 2:30 p.m. on Election Day.

According to Ines, the cop was assigned at a polling center as part of covert security operations during the election period for the May 2025 midterm polls.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the police officer has been reassigned to the District Personnel Holding and Accounting Section (DPHAS) of the MPD.

His issued firearms have been surrendered pending the results of the administrative proceedings, the PNP added.

Administrative complaints for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer have been filed against the cop.

“The PNP takes this matter seriously. While our personnel face real risks in the line of duty, there is no excuse for behavior that undermines public trust,” PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil said in a statement.

“We have already initiated administrative action against the police officer involved, and we will see this through with full transparency and fairness,” he added. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
