Chinese man rescued from small-scale POGO in Pasay City

A Chinese citizen who was allegedly detained by his fellow countrymen to work as a stocks scammer was rescued by Philippine authorities in a condominium unit in Pasay City.

According to John Consulta’s exclusive report in “Saksi” on Thursday, operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Criminal Intelligence Division found the victim in what they described to be a small-scale Philippine offshore gaming operator hub.

The raid stemmed from a complaint from a past victim of the suspects.

“We were at the notion na yung lugar na ‘yun ay quarters. Nakita namin doon na may operations na iba. May P300,000 pang utang itong [biktima], babayaran niya ‘yan sa pamamagitan ng panloloko ng ibang tao at tsaka sila magiging free. That is still a form of illegal detention,” said NBI Intelligence Service Asst. Director Noel Bocaling.

(We were at the notion that the unit served as their quarters. We saw that they could be doing other operations there. The victim is actually in debt of P300,000 and he can only pay that back by scamming other people before he can be freed. That is still a form of illegal detention.)

Three Chinese citizens were arrested after they admitted to operating a POGO. But they denied detaining and physically abusing the victim.

The NBI said that it has filed charges for illegal detention and for violation of the Anti-Financial Accounts Scamming Act against the three suspects. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
