Alleged ‘Bayawak Group’ leader killed in encounter with QCPD

The leader of alleged gun-for-hire group known as “Bayawak Group” was killed in an encounter with police officers in Cavite City on Saturday. 

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Gelbirth Albios Puerto alias “Boss Bay.”

According to the police report “Boss Bay” sensed the presence of authorities during a surveillance operation and drew a gun and fired towards the operatives. A firefight ensued and resulted in the death of the suspect.

The QCPD said that the Bayawak Gun-for-Hire group was involved in a series of robbery hold-ups targeting convenience stores in the National Capital Region and Region 4A.

“I would like to assure the public, that QCPD will continue to monitor and locate those who are involved in the series of robbery incidents in the city and ensure the safety of all Qcitizens,” said QCPD chief Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan.

Evidence recovered at the scene includes one caliber 45 pistol inserted with one magazine, one extra magazine, six empty cartridges, and one black Honda Click motorcycle. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
