One person was killed while another person was injured in a brawl at a wake in Malabon.
As seen in EJ Gomez’s report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, CCTV footage showed a group of men arriving at a wake in Barangay Maysilo past 2 a.m. on Friday.
The commotion could be seen on video after one of the attendees threw something. One man then began chasing another while another man was seen getting a rod.
The CCTV footage also showed men punching each other as they exited the narrow street.
Meanwhile, a woman was seen handing over a rod to another man. He and another man began hitting two other people near the gate.
The CCTV footage also caught a man in a red shirt repeatedly hitting the victims before he fled with his companions.
The two victims were left beaten and with stab wounds. One was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while the other victim is being treated for injuries.
According to the fatality’s sister, her brother was stabbed several times while being hit repeatedly on the head with a steel rod.
She added that he was dragged into the brawl when the suspects and their friend called him.
According to the police, the brawl was caused by a fight between two groups, but the one caught on CCTV was their second fight.
“Yung unang away isa lang ang na-involve na kamag-anak ng mga suspect natin. Ang away hindi na kunan ng CCTV kasi nasa labas,” Malabon City Police Captain Roger Perez said.
(One relative of the suspect was involved in the first fight. The CCTV was unable to capture the fight because it was outside.)
The two groups settled their dispute in the barangay, so a blotter was not filed.
“[Pero] pumunta pa ang mga biktima natin na nakaaway na nga nila yung una. Syempre na trigger na yung isa, na agrabyado kasi putok yung tenga nung biktima natin kaya siguro doon nag umpisa, nakarinig ng masasakit na salita, nagrambulan sila ngayon,” Perez said.

According to the police, the suspects hid in their respective houses. One of them was caught hiding in a water tank.
