— The grand finale of the “Sungrow Master” Installation Skill Competition in the Philippines, initiated by Sungrow, a leading Chinese clean energy technology company specializing in PV inverters and energy storage solutions, was successfully held in Makati on June 11, 2026.
As a nationwide technical competition focused on core technologies in photovoltaic (PV) inverters and electrical systems, the event integrated technical training, professional assessment, and technical community development, providing a platform for installers across the Philippines to enhance their skills and professional capabilities.
Market Demand and Industry Context
As a tropical archipelago, the Philippines benefits from abundant year-round solar resources. However, the country also faces persistent challenges, including high temperatures, frequent typhoons, and grid instability in certain regions.
In recent years, rising electricity prices and growing concerns over energy security have driven increasing demand for higher standards of system safety and operational efficiency within the Philippine PV sector. At the same time, the industry faces a growing shortage of qualified installation professionals. Many frontline practitioners lack access to systematic technical training and industry-standard certification, resulting in a noticeable gap between existing workforce capabilities and the market’s demand for high-quality solar installations.
The safe and reliable operation of PV systems depends heavily on proper installation practices, making skilled installers a critical component of the renewable energy value chain. As a result, professional competitions and structured training programs have become increasingly important for standardizing installation practices and supporting the country’s transition toward sustainable energy.
Competition Participation Overview
According to the organizers, the competition was open to PV system installers nationwide and attracted nearly 500 participants from multiple regions across the Philippines.
During the preliminary stages, Sungrow launched a comprehensive online technical training program covering inverter installation knowledge, practical product applications, installation standards and best practices, and electrical installation fundamentals. Participants who successfully completed the training and passed the online assessment received official digital certificates issued by Sungrow.
In parallel, an official social media community was established to provide ongoing technical support and engagement through daily Q&A sessions, live webinars, technical polls, and community incentive programs. The platform has evolved into a long-term hub for technical learning, peer-to-peer exchange, and industry communication.
In addition, the organizing committee conducted several offline roadshows and face-to-face engagement activities to further encourage participation and strengthen industry interaction.
Grand Finale Assessment and Awards
The grand finale in Makati brought together 30 finalists who advanced through multiple rounds of qualification.
The final assessment consisted of two core components: a 20-minute written test and a Practical Installation Challenge.
The written test evaluated participants’ knowledge of PV system safety, installation standards and best practices, and inverter core technologies. The top 10 performers advanced to the Practical Installation Challenge, where participants completed on-site inverter installation, wiring, and inverter commissioning tasks within a specified timeframe.
The judging panel evaluated participants based on four criteria: Installation Quality (Core Dimension), Installation Speed, Site Neatness, and Professional Literacy. In cases where participants achieved identical scores across all evaluation criteria, the competitor with the shorter completion time received the higher ranking.
Following intense competition, the organizing committee held an on-site awarding ceremony. The Gold Award winner received a cash prize of PHP 50,000, while the Silver and Bronze Award winners received PHP 20,000 and PHP 10,000, respectively.
In addition, seven outstanding participants were honored with the exclusive “Master Installer” technical title and each received a PHP 2,000 cash award. All award recipients were granted official Sungrow certification, providing valuable professional recognition and technical credentials to support their future career development.
Highlights from the Practical Installation Challenge and technical demonstrations will be released through Sungrow’s social media platforms in the coming days.
Future Initiatives
Sungrow emphasized that professionally qualified and highly skilled installers play a vital role in supporting the sustainable growth of the renewable energy industry.
Looking ahead, Sungrow plans to further expand this initiative by continuously providing systematic renewable energy training programs, official certification opportunities, and professional exposure for installers in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia.
Through these efforts, Sungrow remains committed to advancing the Philippine renewable energy sector toward greater professionalism and standardization while supporting the sustainable construction and long-term development of green energy infrastructure throughout the Philippines and the wider Southeast Asian region.
