MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) urged the public to help people get off the streets through the hotlines of the Pag-abot Program.
“The public’s active participation in reporting individuals in street situations plays a vital role in providing immediate reach out to them and so we can give new hope to marginalized families,” Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, DSWD spokesman, said on Monday.
A statement from the DSWD read, “Citizens can help protect vulnerable individuals and keep them safe from the hazards of the streets by messaging the official Facebook page of the program, calling its hotline 8-931-9141 from Mondays to Fridays, or sending an email to [email protected].”
The program, the statement said, “provides convergent interventions, financial assistance, and livelihood grants to safely transition individuals from the streets back to their home communities.”
Data indicated that 21,334 people were reintegrated into their families and hone provinces out of the 22,949 people “formally reached out” to by Pag-abot teams, the statement said.
The data also indicated that 517 people reached out to were, the statement said, “safely admitted to the Pag-abot Processing Center and various DSWD-managed Centers and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs) for further professional assessment and specialized intervention.”
