MANILA, Philippines — A group of doctors on Monday urged the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to investigate Dr. Anthony “Tony” Leachon over alleged violations of professional ethics involving his public medical claims and statements against fellow medical professionals.
The group questioned the scientific basis of Leachon’s statements on the Dengvaxia controversy and accusations against fellow doctors.
Dr. Kenneth Hartigan-Go, former Department of Health undersecretary, said that medical professionals have a responsibility to ensure that public medical information is accurate and supported by scientific evidence.
The group said in a press briefing that it was prepared to submit relevant documents to the PRC and other authorities. It called for a fair and impartial review of the allegations.
Leachon said that his statements on the Dengvaxia controversy aimed to highlight accountability and transparency.
“My statements on the Dengvaxia controversy were never meant to malign colleagues, but to highlight issues of accountability and transparency that continue to affect thousands of Filipino families who lost loved ones,” he said in a statement sent to The Manila Times.
“I will answer the complaint in due course, as it is premature to make further statements at this point,” he said.
