Costa Serena returns to Subic Bay with 3,000 pax, crew , Punto! Central Luzon

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Italian-operated cruise ship Costa Serena came into port here anew on Sunday, Oct. 25, carrying 1,851 passengers and 1,072 crew members, boosting the area’s cruise tourism industry following its last visit last year.

The vessel arrived at around 7:30 a.m., according to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority deputy administrator for port operations Atty. Martin Kristoffer Roman. It was sighted in Subic Bay waters as early as 7 a.m., ahead of its scheduled docking.

The cruise ship’s return highlights Subic Bay’s role as a gateway to tourism destinations in Central Luzon. During its scheduled port call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., passengers were offered shore excursions showcasing the region’s cultural heritage, natural attractions and tourism destinations.

Among the scheduled tours were the Pampanga Heritage Tour, a visit to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar to explore Philippine architectural heritage, and “All of Subic: One City, Two Sides,” featuring the area’s attractions and history.

Other excursions included “All of Pamulaklakin: The Forest & Aeta,” highlighting the local forest environment and indigenous culture; “Ocean Adventure: When the Sea Is the Show,” featuring marine attractions; and a visit to Zoobic Safari, where tourists could experience wildlife encounters. A separate Zoobic Safari tour was also arranged for crew members.

The vessel arrived from Hong Kong, China, where it departed on Oct. 23. After its Subic Bay stop, Costa Serena was scheduled to visit Boracay on Oct. 26 and Puerto Princesa, Palawan, on Oct. 27, before sailing to Benoa, Bali, Indonesia, on Oct. 30.

The cruise call is expected to generate business opportunities for local tourism operators, transport providers, restaurants and other enterprises catering to international visitors.

Subic Bay’s tourism attractions, historical sites and nature-based destinations make the Freeport a potential stop for international cruise itineraries, allowing visitors to explore nearby communities and other destinations across Central Luzon.

Costa Serena’s return underscores Subic Bay’s continuing efforts to strengthen its position in the regional cruise tourism industry and attract more international cruise ship calls.
