CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City — Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) successfully recovered and confiscated an estimated Php12.6 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in an operation conducted in Brgy. Barra, Opol, Misamis Oriental on June 18, 2025.
At around 4:30 AM, Opol Municipal Police Station (MPS) responded to a report from a concerned citizen regarding a pump boat allegedly unloading smuggled cigarette boxes at a beach resort in Brgy. Barra.
Acting promptly, personnel from Opol MPS, in coordination with the RMU 10, RSOU 10, and Barangay Councilor, proceeded to the location. Upon their arrival, unidentified individuals were seen fleeing inside the resort premises and were able to escape in an unknown direction.
Upon inspection of the area, authorities discovered 60 boxes of Red Castorce cigarettes and five boxes of Red Modern cigarettes inside one of the cottages at the resort. The items, believed to be smuggled, have an estimated market value of PhP2,600,000.00 and were brought to Opol MPS for proper documentation and disposition.
PBGEN JAYSEN C DE GUZMAN, Regional Director, PRO10, lauded the swift response of the operating units and the vital cooperation of the community.
“This operation reflects the importance of police-community partnership in combatting smuggling. We, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, will continue to intensify our efforts against the illegal entry and distribution of smuggled goods in the region,” he said.
PRO10 urges the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities in their communities through the nearest police station or via PRO10’s official communication channels.
