P2M smuggled onions seized in Misamis Oriental

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Customs and industrial state officials intercepted smuggled “red onions” valued at P 2M during an inspection of a cargo vessel at the Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Garry Linsagan, Phividec port manager said Wednesday.

Linsagan said that Agriculture Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Laurel, Jr. flew to Cagayan de Oro City On Tuesday, June 24, 2025 to personally opened the a 40-footer van held by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Phividec port in Tagoloan.

He said that the contraband arrived at the international container port of Tagoloan a few days ago, but BOC intercepted the cargo on being informed that a contraband from Xiamen,China was on its way to the Phividec Port.

Linsagan said that the onions consigned to Latinx Consumer Goods Trading, were misdeclared as noodles and egg valued at P2 million.

Sec. Laurel ordered the seized hot items in the custody of BOC here while the agriculture department conducts laboratory examination whether the smuggled items are fit for human consumption.

Latinx Consumer Goods Trading is based in Binondo, Manila engaged import trading of consumer goods from China.
