CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A veteran correspondent of national daily newspaper survived hit-and-run incident while on coverage in Cagayan de Oro City Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
Gerry Gorit, 57, was lucky because his backpack were he kept cameras and laptop, protected his back and head when he fell to the ground after purposely hit by a taxi driver who sped away after the incident.
Gorit, a photographer-reporter of Philippine Star, suffer leg injuries. Confined in a hospital here, Gorit is pressing criminal charges while formally file complaint with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to revoke the license of the erring driver.
“The driver was angry when he could not provide a change to my fare although he (driver) knew that I pullover in a gas station for him to change the bill.,” Gorit said.
“I took photos of the taxicab after the driver threw the loose change on the ground then while taking pictures, the driver intentionally bumped me as he sped away,” Gorit told the Mindanao Daily News.
Gorit has taken a taxicab with plate number KAR 9549 with body number RX-0106 to cover flash floods that the hit various areas of Cagayan de Oro City during heavy rains Tuesday.
Flash flood occurred in various areas in the city prompting the city disaster, risk and rescue team to conduct rescue and temporary evacuation of residents in affected areas.
There were no report of casualties as water subsided few hours later after the flash flood brought by continuous heavy rains that lasted for about four hours.
