Two workers died after a dig site in Barangay Pamplona II, Las Piñas City collapsed on Sunday.
Fire Superintendent Sonny Carlo, city fire marshal of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) -Las Piñas, confirmed the retrieval of the two casualties on Monday, according to a report by GMA News’ Bam Alegre.
Three other workers survived, with one of them injured and brought to the hospital, Las Piñas City Police Assistant Chief of Police for Operations Police Lieutenant Colonel Teoson Rosarito said in an interview on Dobol B TV.
“‘Yung dalawa na worker nag-survive naman po. Hindi naman agad na-trap. Then ‘yung isa po dinala po sa ospital. Sugatan po siya. Then meron po remaining two na na-trap but ito po naman na-recover. Mga sinawing palad na po ito, sir. Dalawa po ang patay dito, sir, sa insidenteng ito,” Rosarito said, adding that all the workers were Filipinos, contrary to reports.

“Pailalim po. Almost 18 meters ang lalim ng kanilang hinuhukay, when suddenly, nag-collapse ito and then na-trap ang limang tao sa ilalim nung hinuhukay nila,” he added.
(The dig site was almost 18 meters down when suddenly it collapsed, trapping five people.)
Rosarito said the accident occurred at 2:52 p.m. Sunday.
Personnel of the Philippine National Police, BFP, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed to the site and worked overnight at the accident site, according to a report on Unang Balita.
Investigation is ongoing, Rosarito said.
Maynilad
Water concessionaire Maynilad confirmed that the accident occurred at their project site.
“We regret to confirm that an accident occurred yesterday afternoon at one of our project sites in Pamplona, Las Piñas,” the company said in a statement.

“Emergency response was immediately initiated, and we coordinated closely with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the barangay, and the local disaster response authorities. Retrieval operations are ongoing and are being led by the BFP,” it added.
“Our thoughts are with the workers and their families during this difficult time. We are coordinating with our contractor to ensure that the affected workers and their families receive the necessary assistance and support,” Maynilad said.
“Work at the site has been suspended, and we are fully cooperating with the concerned authorities in their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. As the investigation is ongoing, we are not in a position to comment further at this time,” the company said.
Relatives
The relatives of the workers went to the site on Sunday and remained there until Monday to await word about their condition, according to a report by Bam Alegre on Unang Balita.
They lamented that they were not immediately informed about the accident. —KG, GMA News
