Visitors will now be allowed at the Senate under the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA)’s Visitor Management System (VMS), according to Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian.

In a video message released Monday, Gatchalian announced the lifting of the “no visitation” policy at the upper chamber, weeks after the Senate was placed under heightened alert status.

“Bilang inyong Senate President, tungkulin kong mapanatili ang katatagan ng institusyon at matiyak ang kaligtasan ng lahat,” said Gatchalian.

(As your Senate President, it is my duty to maintain the stability of the institution and ensure everyone’s safety.)

“Malinaw ang layunin natin: tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng mga senador, kawani, media, mga bumibisita sa Senado, at ng publiko,” he said.

(Our goal is clear: ensure the safety of senators, and of the Senate personnel, media, visitors, and the public.)

According to the senator, Gatchalian said the Senate will continue to coordinate with security agencies to ensure the safety of the chamber. Also part of the measures is the continuous inspection of entry points, presentation of proper identification, and monitoring of the Senate premises, among others.

“Kasabay nito, bukas ang aking tanggapan sa anumang mungkahi. Makikinig tayo at sisikaping matugunan ang mga ito, habang tinitiyak ang tamang balanse sa pagitan ng seguridad at accessibility,” he added.

(My office is open to any suggestions. We will listen and try to fulfill the recommendations while ensure the right balance between security and accessibility.)
