First lady teases Zamora, calls him ‘senator’ during San Juan rice aid program

MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos jokingly called San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora “senator” during the rollout of the government’s rice assistance program in the city on Monday.

Marcos made the remark while joining Zamora in leading the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang Rice Distribution program at the FilOil Centre, where thousands of senior citizens received rice assistance.

“I am not here because of the injection, I am here because of your mayor—senator?” Marcos said.

The first lady was recalling her visit to San Juan with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to get their COVID-19 vaccination.

A total of 8,898 senior citizens are set to receive 10 kilograms of rice four times this year under the Local Government Support Fund-backed program.
