CEBU 7th District Provincial Board Member Jerome Christian Librando has strongly condemned the ambush of a barangay coordinator of his rival candidate in Badian town and called for an end to talks politicizing the incident.
Librando, who is running for mayor of Badian in the upcoming May 12 elections, said the allegations are not only “irresponsible” but they also undermine the effort to seek truth and justice.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the vicious attack that led to the killing of former barangay councilor Guillermo ‘Glen’ Antipuesto, and the wounding of one of our loyal supporters, Santos ‘Sonny’ Ambrad,” read a portion of
Librando’s statement posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Antipuesto was a purok leader actively involved in the campaign of former barangay councilor Gerry Duque, who is running for Badian mayor against Librando.
Antipuesto was ambushed on Monday, April 28, in Barangay Candiis, sparking speculations that the killing was politically motivated.
In an earlier SunStar Cebu report, Duque himself condemned the attack and revealed that Antipuesto had gotten threats to his life.
Antipuesto also previously expressed concern over the tense political climate in the town, reports said.
Librando urged the public not to make the tragedy political.
“We take serious exception to any attempt to politicize this tragedy by making baseless accusations or using it to further divide us,” Librando said.
He called on authorities to conduct a “thorough, impartial investigation and bring those responsible to justice without political interference or unfounded assumptions.”
“No act of violence can ever be justified, especially one that results in the loss of life,” Librando said. / CDF
