AIRPORT authorities intercepted a passenger who tried to slip into the country nearly P30 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu.
In a statement, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) intercepted a 43-year-old Filipina who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 1:35 p.m. on June 14, 2025.
The interception happened following the discovery of approximately 4,368 grams of shabu, concealed inside her luggage.
The illegal drugs, with an estimated value of P29,702,400, were found packed inside an improvised black duct tape pouch, hidden beneath bundles of clothing, towels, a blanket, and a comforter.
The arrested individual will be charged with violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act 9165.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Atty. Isagani Nerez said the successful interdiction effort underscored the unwavering commitment of PDEA and its partner agencies to defend the nation’s borders against international drug trafficking.
“This interdiction success is a product of strong collaboration between PDEA and our law enforcement partners. Our presence in major airports, seaports, and cargo facilities is not just necessary; it is imperative,” he said. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
