VP Sara to visit Pinoys in Qatar, dad Rodrigo in The Netherlands

Vice President Sara Duterte will fly to Qatar and then The Netherlands in overseas visits that are scheduled to run from May 26 to June 4, according to her office.

The articles of impeachment filed against her will be read in the Senate on June 2, while the impeachment court will convene on June 3.

An advisory released by the Office of the Vice President said that Duterte will meet with the Filipino community in Doha on Tuesday, May 27.

She will then travel to The Netherlands, where she will visit her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, in The Hague on May 30 and again on June 2 and 3.

In between those visits, the advisory said, the Vice President “will participate in a peaceful gathering organized by various Filipino community groups” in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on May 31.

The Vice President will then return to the Philippines on June 4.

The elder Duterte was arrested in Manila on March 11 on a warrant issued by the ICC and brought to The Hague, where he will face trial for alleged crimes against humanity in connection with his deadly war on drugs.

Vice President Duterte, meanwhile, was impeached by the House of Representatives in February on several charges, including the disposition of P612.5 million in confidential funds with questionable liquidation documents; and her declaration that she had contracted someone to assassinate President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. if she is killed.

The reading of the impeachment charges will be held in the Senate on June 2, while the Senate will convene as an impeachment court on June 3. — BM, GMA Integrated News
