VP Sara meets with South Korea education minister in Seoul

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Thursday met with Republic of Korea Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Ju-ho Lee in Seoul, South Korea to discuss education-related matters.

Duterte said it was an opportunity to learn about the education system of different countries, considering that she serves as the concurrent secretary of the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd), and the president of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council.

“Isa rin itong pagkakataon para sa pakikipagtulungan, pagpapalalim ng mga ugnayan, at pagpapalitan ng kaalaman sa iba’t ibang bansa, kasama na ang pagpapaunlad ng kalidad ng edukasyon ng Pilipinas,” Duterte said in a statement.

(It is also an opportunity for cooperation, deepening of relations, and exchange of knowledge among different countries, including the development of the quality of Philippine education.)

During the discussion of the two officials, Lee revealed that South Korea is currently promoting digital innovation through digital technology in the field of education, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) said.

Duterte flew to Seoul on Wednesday to serve as one of the keynote speakers for the Global Education and Innovation Summit (GEIS), which will be held on Thursday.

Around 200 global education leaders, scholars, vice ministers, education policymakers, and experts are expected to attend the summit to share experiences and examples of changes in teaching and learning methods.
