A total of 13 people died in 49 validated election-related incidents since the start of the election period on January 12 for the May 2025 midterm polls, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.
In an update as of Tuesday, the PNP said four of these fatalities were reported in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), three in Zamboanga Peninsula, and two in Cagayan Valley.
There was one fatality each in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Of these cases, the PNP said only three suspects have been arrested so far as 44 others are still at large.
Most of the validated election-related incidents were shooting incidents with 25 cases. Other incidents involved strafing, threat, harassment, explosion, kidnapping with homicide, mauling, grenade throwing, among others.
Aside from the validated cases, suspected election-related incidents also rose to 86. These are now undergoing verification.
The PNP said a total of 27 incidents were reported on Election Day.
Despite reports of violence and delays in the voting process in some areas, the PNP said the May 2025 midterm elections have been generally peaceful. —RF, GMA Integrated News
