President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday expressed his condolences following the death of Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit.
In a statement, Marcos recalled the late queen’s kindness, grace, and warmth.
“Her close friendship with the Philippines and her genuine spirit of compassion have always been a source of strength and inspiration for us all. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family and the Thai people,” he said.
“May her soul find eternal peace, and may her legacy of love continue to inspire us,” he added.
In Bangkok, the Philippine Embassy said in a statement that Sirikit would be remembered “with profound respect and admiration for her unwavering devotion to the Thai people.”
“Her Majesty has left an indelible impact on the Kingdom of Thailand and its people through her efforts in championing rural development and livelihood generation, empowering local artisans to preserve traditional Thai crafts, and promoting the preservation of Thai culture,” it said.
“The Filipino community in Thailand stands in solidarity with the people of Thailand in mourning the loss of their beloved Mother of the Nation.”
Sirikit, wife of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Thailand’s longest-reigning monarch, died on Friday at age 93 because of a blood infection.
She had reportedly been hospitalized for several illnesses since 2019 and had been out of the public eye since 2012 following a stroke.
