The widower of a chop-chop victim in 2011 was arrested in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the CIDG said the accused “Alberto” was captured on March 14 through an arrest warrant for parricide, which was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 108 of Cabuyao City, Laguna on March 11.
Before the disappearance of the victim, the CIDG said her husband was the last person seen with her on May 7, 2011.
A dismembered human remain was discovered in Santa Rosa City on May 9, 2011. However, the identity of the body was not confirmed, the CIDG said.
After 13 years, on February 8, 2024, the daughter of the victim said that her uncle revealed that the accused supposedly confessed to the killing, dismembering, and disposing of the victim’s remains in several locations.
On May 21, 2024, the daughter reported the information to the police, leading to an investigation.
A DNA testing was conducted on August 22, 2024 on the recovered remains and the result confirmed that the remains belonged to the wife of Alberto.
On January 27 this year, a criminal complaint for parricide under the Revised Penal Code was filed against Alberto before the National Prosecution Service.
A warrant of arrest against the accused was issued by Cabuyao Court on March 11.
CIDG chief Police Major General Nicolas Torre III commended the efforts of his personnel on the case.
“This is remarkable. They never stopped in the filing of complaint. They patiently waited for the arrest warrant, then, grabbed the suspect at once,” he said.
“Rest assured that your CIDG means business. We urge the public to report all the criminalities, criminals and fugitives in your localities, and your CIDG will do the rest,” he added. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
