Over 1,400 people evacuated due to Dodong, Southwest Monsoon —NDRRMC

A total of 1,419 individuals or 400 families were evacuated due to the combined effects of Southwest Monsoon which was enhanced by Tropical Storm Dodong (international name Talim), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.

As of 8 a.m., NDRRMC’s situational report showed that 36 evacuation centers in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas were opened to temporarily house the evacuees.

Eighty-nine people or 54 families, meanwhile, were staying outside of evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC said more than 1,600 people or 491 families in 39 barangays were affected by the inclement weather.

It also resulted in class suspensions in 66 cities and municipalities, 23 canceled seaport trips, and water and power supply interruption in several areas.

Seventeen roads and three bridges in Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region were also not passable.

The weather further caused 29 flooding incidents, four rain-induced landslides, and one structure collapsing.

The NDRRMC said over P267,000 worth of assistance has been provided in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Mimaropa.

Dodong exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat continues to affect the country on Sunday, bringing rains over several areas, PAGASA said in its weather forecast. —KG, GMA Integrated News
