MIAA to lengthen airport CCTV footage retention to 90 days

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said they would upgrade the retention of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at key airport areas and immigration counters.

“Nag-indetify na po tayo ng mga critical cameras sa ating mga areas na kung saan going in and out of the Immigration, kung saan papasaok at laabas ang mga pasahero sa mga pre-departure gates. Kung nag-arrive naman po, kung saan po sila dumadaan, nakapag-identify namna po tayo ng mga key cameras kung saan dito ang ia-upgrade natin,” said MIAA Senior Assistant Manager Bryan Co at the public briefing on Tuesday.

(We identified critical cameras in areas where passengers go in and out of Immigration areas, where passengers pass through the pre-departure gates. When arriving and where they pass, we were able to identify the key cameras to upgrade.)

“This week po, we are undergoing the procurement process na ilalabas na po namin’ yung requirements ng NAIA, and we will be aiming to award this by next week, Monday,” he said.

“The retention period will increase from 30 to 90 days, effective two weeks from now,” he added.

Co noted that MIAA had sufficient resources to upgrade the CCTVs.

Passenger experience

Meanwhile, Co shared that the first phase of the change in terminal assignments of several airlines, which began on April 16, had gone smoothly and efficiently.

As for the free MIAA shuttle service that brings passengers to terminals, the service would end on May 16. Its extension was subject to assessment.

Meanwhile, the MIAA said that starting July 1, the NAIA-2 would be used exclusively for domestic travel, except for Cebu Pacific.

By June 16, several international airlines using Terminal 2 would be transferred to Terminal 1. Over 120 to 150 immigration officers would also be transferred between Terminals 1 and 3.

“Lahat po ng ito ay para ssa ikabubuti ng ating passenger experience. Ang ating paglilipat ay result po ng ating pag-aaral, and ofcourse we involved our different stakeholders at aapela kami sa kanilang undertansding sa ating dito sa changes,” Co advised the passengers.

(All of this is for the betterment of our passenger experience. Our transfer is the result of our studies. And of course, we involved our different stakeholders and will seek their understanding over the changes.)

“Inaasahan po natin na magiimporve ang ating experience mababawasan ang congestion at laging makaipagugnayan sa ating mga airlines,” he added.

(We hope that our services will improve, congestion will be reduced, and we will always be able to communicate with our airlines.) — DVM, GMA Integrated News
