President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise ”Liza” Araneta-Marcos will undertake a state visit to Japan from May 26 to 29, 2026, according to the Presidential Communications Office on Friday.
This state visit is upon the invitation of the Japanese government.
The First Couple will be received by Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress, at the Imperial Palace for a welcome ceremony and a state call.
Marcos will hold a summit meeting with Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae where they are expected to discuss the future trajectory of the Philippines and Japan’s strengthened strategic partnership.
They will also continue their recent discussions on current international developments, especially about energy, food security, and maritime security.
Marcos will also meet with Japanese business groups and members of the Filipino community during the state visit.
Marcos had an official visit to Japan in February 2023. He also went there in December of that year for the ASEAN-Japan Summit.
In June of last year, Marcos and the First Lady visited Osaka, Japan for the World Expo 2025. —VAL, GMA News
