President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Partido Federal Pilipinas (PFP) will ally with the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) in preparation for the May 2025 midterm elections.
NPC Chairperson and former Senate President Vicente Sotto III said the upcoming alliance was grounded on the two parties’ “desire for genuine unity, strength, and continued positive change.”
“Historically, the NPC has always been supportive of the elected president. With urgency, we continue to push for unity among the leaders of our great nation. With that in mind, our party will heed the call of the PFP,” said Sotto in a statement.
“I believe this alliance will foster cooperation and strong support for our President considering our party has almost 4,000 members, of which, 1,910 are incumbent officials,” he added.
The upcoming alliance is set to be formalized in a ceremony in Makati City on Saturday evening. Marcos was expected to attend the ceremony.
The NPC holds five seats in the Senate and 38 in the House of Representatives.
The PFP earlier inked an alliance with Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, which is spearheaded by Marcos’ cousin House Speaker Martin Romualdez, to field common candidates for the Senate race in the 2025 elections.
Marcos previously said the PFP was looking to join forces with the Nacionalista Party (NP) and the National Unity Party.
Surigao del Norte Representative Ace Barbers of NP welcomed the chief executive’s idea of allying with them.
Marcos served as the presidential bet of the PFP in the 2022 national elections. The PFP, however, did not field a Senate slate that year. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
