President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday led the inspection of the construction of the 13-storey National Kidney And Transplant Institute (NKTI) Legacy Building in Quezon City, which he said is poised to be the single largest dialysis center in Southeast Asia.
Marcos said he has ordered the faster construction of the facility to provide service to more Filipinos suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD).
“Ito kasi ay malaki ang pangangailangan sa ating populasyon dahil…ang kanilang statistic, over 11% ng mga Pilipino ay may chronic kidney disease. Kaya’t kailangang pagtibayin natin at palawakin natin ang ating serbisyo para sa pag-treat ng CKD,” the President said.
(Our population greatly needs this facility because based on statistics, over 11% of Filipinos have chronic kidney disease. So we need to strengthen and expand our service for treating CKD.)
“Pagkatapos nito, ay ito ang magiging pinakamalaking dialysis center sa Southeast Asia,” he added.
(Once finished, this will be the largest dialysis center in Southeast Asia.)
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said they are targeting to finish the construction of the building by the end of 2027.
“‘Yung ginagawa natin ngayon, 2023 nagsimula and ang utos ng ating Pangulo, tapusin by end of 2027. Na-delay ito dahil sa usual, pondong tingi-tingi. Pero ngayon, bubuuin na natin ang pondo next year para December 2027, buo na ang kinakailangang P2.8 billion para itayo itong bagong NKTI,” Dizon said.
(The construction of this building began in 2023 and the President has ordered it finished by the end of 2027. It was delayed because of issues on funding. But now, we will already complete the funding of P2.8 billion to have this new NKTI building completed by December 2027.)
“Kapag ito natapos na sa December 2027, 200 plus simultaneous sa isang lugar ang mga dialysis patients na pwedeng i-cater. Napakalaki no’n, more than double ‘yun ng existing ngayon,” he emphasized.
(Once finished in December 2027, it could cater to more than 200 dialysis patients simultaneously. That’s a huge number, more than double of what we’re doing right now.)
The 13-storey facility is designed as a comprehensive one-stop healthcare facility with operating rooms, laboratories, pharmacies, and training facilities for dialysis and transplant programs.
It will also house 200 hemodialysis machines to expand access to renal healthcare services, and further develop kidney care and transplant services for Filipinos in need. — RSJ, GMA News
