The Department of Justice (DOJ) has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into allegations that Marvin Miranda, one of the alleged masterminds in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo can leave the detention center.
Justice spokesperson Mico Clavano, however, stressed that the allegations are still being looked into.
“Right now, we’ve instructed the NBI to investigate and to look into that possible angle. However, I cannot validate or verify dahil hindi pa naman po tayo sigurado na ayun ang nangyayari,” he said.
Earlier, the DOJ said it sees a connivance in the NBI that allows inmates to go in and out of the facility.
“But again, I will emphasize that this is a very serious allegation that we will have to look into,” he said.
When sought for comment, Degamo’s widow and Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo hinted that Miranda could also leave if Dera could.
“Kung titingnan mo kung nakakalabas si Dera, what made you think na hindi makakalabas si Miranda, knowing that Miranda has a very powerful, very moneyed, very rich, wealthy boss?” she said.
Degamo and nine others were killed while several others were injured after an attack on the late governor’s home in Negros Oriental on March 4, 2023.
