Anson Que’s son files sworn statement in kidnap-slay complaint

Alvin Que, the son of slain businessman Anson Que, has filed a sworn statement that allegedly provides vital information that may help in the prosecution of those responsible for the death of his father, his lawyer said Wednesday.

Que, with his lawyers, attended the preliminary hearing on the kidnapping for ransom with homicide complaint filed before the Department of Justice, where he is one of the six names recommended for investigation.

“Vital in the sense that it is a narrative that contains what had happened from the time of the abduction up to the time of the positive identification of Anson Que,” Atty. Pearlito Campanilla, Que’s lawyer, said in an ambush interview.

“And in between is the protracted and tedious, difficult negotiation for the ransom,” he added.

He declined to give further details, reiterating that they would like to avoid a public trial as well as citing the sub judice rule.

Meanwhile, Campanilla denied that Que was involved in the killing. He said that the Philippine National Police has cleared Que.

“Wala hong ebidensyang nagpo-point out na si Mr. Alvin Que ay involved dito. In fact, ‘yung negotiation nu’ng ransom, ‘yung paghingi niya ng proof of life, it’s very indicative na talagang walang-wala siyang kinalaman,” he said.

(There is no evidence pointing to Mr. Alvin Que’s involvement in the case. In fact, during the negotiation for the ransom, he asked for proof of life. It’s very indicative that he really had no involvement.)

Que has also filed a motion seeking to remove himself as a respondent in the complaint. However, Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon previously said that the panel of prosecutors will rule on the motion together with the complaint.

Anson Que and his driver Armanie Pabillo were found stuffed inside nylon bags on a grassy portion of a road in Rodriguez, Rizal. They were last seen alive on March 29 when they left the businessman’s office in Valenzuela City. Autopsy results showed Que and his driver died due to strangulation.

The PNP previously said it is considering David Tan Liao, Wenli Gong or Kelly Tan Lim, and an unnamed suspect as possible masterminds.

Gong, an alleged co-mastermind, and Wu Ja Ping, Gong’s alleged hairdresser, were arrested by authorities in Boracay.

Gong also personally attended the preliminary probe. She was accompanied by authorities.

Meanwhile, Campanilla called on those with relevant information to come forward.

“We also urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the authorities in this ongoing investigation. This serious act is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address violence and impunity in our society,” he said.

“No family should ever have to endure such violence,” he added. —KG, GMA Integrated News
