The Philippine Navy has activated the Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC) in place of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) as part of its strategic realignment efforts. The activation ceremony was held on June 3, 2025, at the Naval Station Romulo Espaldon in Zamboanga City, with Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta as the guest of honor. This move aims to enhance command and control, operational reach, and maritime security posture in Western Mindanao, underscoring the Navy’s growing significance in the region and its commitment to defending national sovereignty and maritime interests. The ceremony also marked the change of command and retirement of Rear Admiral Francisco Tagamolila Jr., with Captain Hilarion Cecista assuming the post of WMNC acting commander. Vice Admiral Ezpeleta paid tribute to Tagamolila’s illustrious career and extended gratitude to his family, highlighting the values of duty, loyalty, and honor that have shaped the Navy’s identity.
