Three Mindanawons have been selected as fellows for the IYAS La Salle National Writers Workshop, announced on April 1. The fellows, chosen from 105 applicants nationwide, include Laurehl Onyx B. Cabiles from Cotabato Province (Hiligaynon Binalaybay), John Dave B. Pacheco from General Santos City (Filipino Tula), and John Danté from Iligan City (Cebuano Sugilanon). The workshop, organized by the University of St. La Salle and DLSU Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center, will be held from May 11 to 16 in Bacolod City, focusing on works exploring human relationships with the environment. Meanwhile, the Davao Writers Guild has opened applications for the 2026 Davao Writers Workshop until April 16, inviting Mindanao-based writers to submit original, unpublished manuscripts in various languages. The workshop, set for May 27-31 in Samal Island, will prioritize entries reflecting Mindanao’s diversity, especially those addressing “reconciliation.” The event aims to nurture literary voices in the region, supported by Initiatives for International Dialogue and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, highlighting a growing literary ecosystem that amplifies regional voices nationally and locally.
