Misleading Facebook Pages Pose as Pearl Farm Beach Resort

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 12 April) – A luxury resort known for its exclusivity is being impersonated by fake Facebook pages designed to lure online users. These pages falsely represent Pearl Farm Beach Resort and mislead users, particularly those planning bookings or transactions, exposing them to potential scams. MindaNews fact-checked this issue, revealing that one impersonator page, created on October 31, 2025, has accumulated around 88,000 likes and followers. The page is Meta verified, includes contact details like a phone number and email, and uses advertisements to attract followers rapidly. Another page, “Pearl Farm Hotel Resort Samal,” created on January 16, 2026, is also Meta verified and has around 74,000 likes and followers. Both pages mimic the resort’s branding and promotional content, misleading users into believing they are official. Indicators of their illegitimacy include their recent creation dates and rapid follower growth, likely fueled by paid ads rather than organic engagement. Their contact details do not match the resort’s verified channels. In contrast, Pearl Farm Beach Resort’s official Facebook page, created on October 5, 2011, has around 236,000 followers and a 98% recommendation rating based on over 16,000 reviews. It provides verified contact details, including its official website and corporate email. The resort issued an advisory on November 29, 2025, warning guests about these impersonator pages and emphasizing that any page not linked to its official account is fraudulent. Guests are advised to verify Facebook pages by checking creation dates, name changes in the page transparency section, and the quality and number of reviews. They should ensure contact details match the resort’s official channels and avoid transactions through Facebook if uncertain. Meta verification badges alone do not guarantee authenticity, as scammers may obtain them to appear credible. MindaNews invites leads or suggestions regarding suspicious resort pages in Samal or other areas of Mindanao for verification. (Norielle Tonong / DOrSU Intern)
