ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews / 26 Dec) – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook Agusan del Sur early evening Thursday, in what the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said could probably have caused damage. It said aftershocks were expected.
In its first earthquake information dispatch, Phivolcs said the 6:26 p.m. temblor had a magnitude of 5.6 with epicenter at the coordinates 08.42°N, 125.88°E (or 10 km S 73° E of Talacogon), or somewhere in the boundary of the municipalities of Talacogon and San Francisco.
When Phivolcs issued earthquake information no. 2, the epicenter was corrected at the coordinates 08.46°N, 125.88°E (10 km N 86° E of Talacogon), or about five kilometers to the north.
Phivolcs, in its second dispatch, said the quake of tectonic origin had a depth of focus of 12 kilometers.
It said it was felt as Intensity IV in the Bislig and Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur; as Intensity III in the eastern part of Misamis Oriental and in parts of Davao de Oro, and in Barobo, Surigao del Sur. It was still felt as Intensity I in Davao City and nearby areas. (MindaNews)
