MINDANAO, particularly the Davao Region, is expected to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms following the entry of a low-pressure area into the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Monday morning, April 28, 2025. The low-pressure area, located about 695 kilometers east of General Santos City, is embedded within the intertropical convergence zone, which is affecting large parts of the country. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, the low-pressure area has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, but may develop into a tropical cyclone by May 1, with a chance of further intensifying into a typhoon as it approaches Mindanao. Rains will persist in Mindanao, the Visayas, and Palawan due to the intertropical convergence zone, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides in areas experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, aside from the rainy conditions, dangerously high heat continues to grip several areas of the country, with heat index levels reaching 42°C to 44°C in some locations, prompting the weather bureau to advise the public to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities to prevent heat-related illnesses.
